DMB, Gorge in George, Washington Labor Day Weekend 2004

The Gorge is quite possibly the most amazing music venue on earth. Labor Day weekend was my first time there, and I live and breathe the statement that every music fan on earth should go to a show here once in their life.

I was nervous about the trip. I was flying across the country to meet up with people I didn't know well, we were camping (which is something I don't do, ever) and I didn't really know what to expect.

We stayed in Vantage, a campground around 15 miles from the venue. Luckily that means it wasn't full immersion camping - had a bathroom and restaurant and convenience store on site.

But the real story is about the venue. That amazing venue, there is nothing like walking over that ridge for the first time and seeing the landscape spread before you. Seeing the sunset across the gorge as the band starts up. The freedom to do what you want and be who you are without a single soul caring in the world. Laying on the grass with friends in the middle of nowhere. I am unsure that anything in my lifetime would ever duplicate those feelings.
